Heatwave Fire

Heatwave Fire

Radiant flaming hues echo late summer’s fire,
as the garden flowers sizzle in scorching heat.

Hot orange-red trumpets flare in sprays of arched stems,
and bold golden petal rays beam from their dark brown cones.

Rosy red flushed apples weigh heavy on their boughs,
their blazing small crab cousins gleam brightly in the sun.

Ruby red wild rose hips climb across the side hedge,
where firethorn berry hordes shine a deep burnt orange.

Scarlet clumps of fruit spears poke above rusty leaves,
but swollen rowan berries glow in tangerine droops.

Rich yellow sharp quinces cling tight to fence trained stalks,
while fox and cub orange blooms dance among seedhead clocks.

Fiery leaf tinges hint at autumnal pyre,
as the garden flowers turn to the seasons’ beat.
